So this week has gone by crazy fast and it's been a pretty busy week. I am now a week and 4 days away from getting on a plane to freaking Finland!! I am so excited to get out there.
Friday: So we had skype TRC this morning for the first time. Me and Elder Carter were kinda freaking out cause we had been told we would be skyping some real Fins. So we get in there and are assigned a computer and I look at the name. I was like this doesn't sound like a Finnish name, and then I look at the picture and I was like "Carter, we have taught this guy before" ahaha. So that took away all the nerves because we already knew him. We had taught him a few weeks ago in a normal TRC haha. But it was a great lesson... we taught for 30 min and it went great. So that was the big funny part of Friday last week. Other than that we played volleyball that night and we did our usual Friday night studying outside.
Saturday: Tonight we had to teach another one of our interested people. So tonight we had to teach Antti. Our teacher just plays a guy that he taught on their mission and we just teach them. Well we have struggled teaching Antti the last couple of times. They have been super short lessons and we have been struggling to get our message across so that it can help him. So we just went in to teach him AND WE ROCKED IT!! It was one of the best lessons that we have taught Antti. We were able to get him to open up, ask him questions, and teach something and get it to apply to him. And I felt very confident with my Finnish. Now my Finnish still sucks but as long as we are improving we are good ahaha.
Sunday: Well today was Fast sunday and let me tell ya, it is rough. I was never good at the whole fasting for the whole day, let alone could I fast for a meal ahha. So when we fast all the way till Sunday dinner it is a bit of a stretch hahaha. But I made it last fast sunday and I made it this one as well... but I was very hungry ahah. It was a good day, church was good, good classes. But today I got to say goodbye to Jay. Now that's Jacob Brinley for those of you who don't know him... but I call him Jay. He leaves on Tuesday but we weren't sure if we would see each other on Monday or not. Now I have known Jay for a long time. Best friends as kids and brothers now. I have seen Jay grow up and he is someone that I look up to. I can tell you that he is more than ready to go out and serve the Lord. Jay is going to bless so many lives in Reno. The people are going to love him and he is such a good example to those who meet him. His testimony is strong and it's only gonna get stronger. Jay I am so proud of you and what you are doing. You are one amazing man and I am so happy that I have been able to know you and be your friend. I say this cause everyone should know that Jay is a stud. Love ya buddy! Go change some peoples lives and I'll see ya soon.
Monday: Not gonna lie...all I wrote about in my journal was how mind blown I was that I will be living in Finland for 2 years. Crazy huh ahaha. I'm going to Finland!!! haha.
Tuesday:Tonight we had a great devotional. A member of the seventy came but I don't remember his name ahaha. But he gave a great talk that made me think.
"Leave home with a desire to find the elect." It all depends on our attitude about our work. We need to have a desire, an undying urge to find those elect. We need to find the Lost, nourish the weak, and strengthen the strong. If that makes sense. People who are lost want a way back. If you took a wrong turn you listen to your GPS say "Recalculating" and it gets you a way back on the right road. So in this scenario we are the GPS to help the lost come back or find that right road. So we need to have that desire to get them back on the road and off the beaten path. Nourish the weak. We will teach people and will have a hard time grasping some aspects of the gospel. They may not understand everything we say. Maybe its cause our Finnish is bad or they just flat out don't get it. So we are there to nourish them. We are there to care for them and walk slowly with them so that they may become strong. Now strengthen the strong. We have all something like... Lift weights, play the piano, play a sport and we were good at something. Now weights are a little easier to explain so we will go with that. Lets say you are doing squats. Your starting weight that you can max squat is 200 pounds. 200 pounds is a lot but you can definitely become stronger. So what do you do? Go to your weights coach and ask what you can do to become stronger. Make a plan to get stronger. So you do all your leg exercises, you do all your other workouts to build your entire body to become stronger as a whole. The next time you max is maybe 225. Then the next is 240. Then 260. Then 280. Then BAM! You squat 300 pounds. What happened? You got stronger. You can now squat 100 more pounds than before. We as missionaries are your weights coaches. We will take you and what you know and make you stronger. Strengthen the strong. We will make you the strongest you can be spiritually. So you ca essentially put it all together.
1) We will find the lost: If you are lost for a long time you are weak, tired, and hungry. 2) Nourish the weak. We will feed you, give you rest that you may become strong. 3) Strengthen the strong. We will strengthen you up to be the best you can be.
We need to have the desire to find them and strengthen them up. It's a process, it takes time. The more you work the more results you will see. You get out what you put in right? So if we work hard and always have that desire we will make a difference. Our result will depend on how much we put in. So why not work as hard as you can so that you can receive the best out come? I've said it before and it keeps coming up so it must be true. It all depends on YOU. Only I can decide how my mission goes. So you better know I'll be doing my best to get the best outcome for these people that I meet and teach.
Wednesday: Just gonna get to the funny story cause that's what everyone wants to read right ahaha. SO me and Elder Carter are teaching the first lesson to another elder... to role play. So we taught him to pray and we asked him if he understood. Well he asked if he could pray. Thinking he would try it out later we told him " Of course you can always pray" Well he meant now and just starts praying right then and there. Me and Elder Carter have no idea whats going on and we bust up laughing and our teacher is laughing cause she had no idea what was going on either. HAHAHAHA! The language makes it a little hard to understand but gets some good stories every once in a while hahaha.
Well that's all folks! Next P-day will be my last one here in Provo before I am writing you all from Finland!
love yall!
Elder Love is out
He only sent videos this time and no pictures...so I just added a couple of pictures of him:)
