#46 Zone Conference/branch party and lots of food!!

Hey everyone!  It's been another week here in Finland and it's been a ton of fun!!! Really good week!! Here's what we did this week:)
Tuesday was p day and it was just a normal p day except we had to catch a train to Oulu... cause we had zone conference on Wednesday.  So we caught our train around 5 and then we started our journey to oulu. After an hour on the train we got to  Seinäjoki  and had to switch trains... and we met up with Elder Lebaron and Elder Aitken there. We went and got seats together and we had some pizza. The elders had gone and bought this huge pizza for the train ride. And it had all kinds of meets on it and it was way good. About an hour later we had the Kokkola and Pietarsaari Elders get on and they came to join us. And we had a fun train ride talking all the way to Oulu. We got to Oulu at around 9 and got picked up by the zone leaders there and went back to the apartment. We had a ton of Elders spending the night there. It was a lot of fun to talk with the other elders and we also had mud cakes and ice cream and that was way good!!!  That was about all that happened that night.
Wednesday we got up and started to get ready and eat breakfast. We threw food coloring into the pancake batter and tried to make them red for the 4th of July but they turned out pink hahaha. It's really the only thing we could do to celebrate and this was even on the 3rd:)) But we got ready and went to zone conference. Zone conference was really fun. It was really fun to be back in Oulu again. But we got to see all the other missionaries in the north zone which was fun.  We had interviews with President and that was fun. We had a good conversation and just had a good time talking. I also talked with Sisar Aura and had a good conversation with her and some other elders. In zone conference we learned that we would be getting the area book planner app. That means from now till about October we will be transferring papers to the app but we also have to tract down people and ask them for permission to do it, cause of all the laws in Finland and Europe. So that will be fun and in the end we will have a big paper shredding party and all the papers will be shredded. We heard the final testimonies of some of the missionaries in the zone and that's always sad cause they are all going home. Then after zone conference we all walked to the train station and got on our trains. We rode the train 3 hours to Seinäjoki and we had to spend the night there with those elders. That night they had pre made some dinner for us so we just had to pop it in the oven when we got there. Elder Lebaron and Aitken had made a salmon casserole and that was actually really good. So we ate that and chatted for a little bit and then we went to bed.
Thursday we got up early cause we had to catch our train back to Vaasa. It left at like 6:50 in the morning, and we rode the train back... luckily it was only an hour.  After all the train riding from the last to days...when we got off the train in Vaasa..we were just beat haha. We went home and got ready for the day and we did some personal study. Then we  went ouy tracting and we had a hard time finding parking. I swear there are some places where you can't park anywhere and that really sucks cause you need a place to put the car:)). So that was a little frustrating cause we could literally find no place to park. But we came back and did some studies and then we went to a dinner appointment with a member and that was way good. We had some lasagna and salad and it was pretty good and for dessert it was strawberries and whipped cream. Then  we went out tracting for the rest of the night and we also visited a less active friend and it was a pretty good night.
Friday was a really busy day. We got up and did the normal things in the morning and we headed out to go to a lesson. Turns out they were not home so we started tracting the buildings around. Literally nobody was home, like we knocked about 20 doors and nobody answered. So me and elder Chugg decided to finish out the building we were in and then go somewhere else...cause nobody was here. Then like 5 min after we decide to stay we got a door to open to us. Found a man who had met the missionaries before and had a Book of Mormon but returned it to them like 5 years ago. He let us in so we could talk. He told us he had had a dream that we were going to come to his door, and talk to him. He told us he had seen us before in his dream and that we were the ones who were gonna come talk to him. Well I guess we were the ones who woke him up from this dream and bam there we were:)He seemed like a pretty cool dude so we will see what happens. Then we went back and had some lunch and went to meet with a less active. We had a lesson with them and it went really well, we read out of the Book of Mormon with her. Then after that we went to start weekly planning. And I'm sure other missionaries know the feeling of when you start weekly planning you feel like you literally just sat down to plan last week. It just comes and goes so quick. But we did that and while we were planning we set up another lesson with an investigator for that night. So we finished that, went to a dinner appointment with a member and they took us out for pizza and then we headed straight over to our lesson. We got there and sat down and started talking and they told us that they were thinking that they were happy with the church they were in... and maybe didn't want to continue. We talked to them and turns out they had a lot of questions and it turned into a really cool lesson. He asked us as well to share one of our favorite parts in the Book of Mormon... and with us doing that,  he related it back to the lesson on his own which was way cool. He said he would keep searching and it was awesome! And to close off the night we had a friend who is trying to quit drinking.... and the last time we were over there he told us it was his last day drinking. He called us to come over and we were thinking maybe he drank again. We came over and he wanted to show us how cleaned up he was. Has stopped drinking and just looked like a new man, but just had us come over to show us his progress. That was a great way to end the night!
Saturday was a busy and fun day! So we started out in the morning by tracting and following up with the former investigators.. to see if we could maybe pick them up again. Not many people answered or were home. We did find someone who said they would be interested in learning so we will see if we can get a lesson set up at all.   After that morning block we went back and had some lunch and did our studies. We then went to meet a less active who invited us to come over to his summer cottage for lunch and that was way fun. It was a little hard to get there but thankfully he drove slow so I could follow him Haha. Actually all Finnish people drive slow. Now I guess that's a good thing for me being new to driving in a foreign country but still they drive so slow here. Anyway we made it to his place and he showed us around and then we grilled some makkara and that was way good and had some potato salad with it as well and that was so good. Sadly we couldn't stay long but it was nice to see him and we got to meet some of his kids. We drove back and on our way back a less active was wondering if we were busy and if we could meet him at the church for some pingpong. We had a little bit of time before we had to leave for another thing, so we met him at the church and played some ping pong. I got my butt whooped. He was so good, it was so fast half the time I couldn't see it. I felt like Jaden Smith in the Karate Kid when he plays that Chinese guy and stands there with the paddle covering his face haha. But it was way fun. Then we went and drove to a ward party. Or branch party. Not really sure. But they had rented out this small house by the ocean  and grilled some makkara and had salads and watermelon and pineapple. And a ton of people from the branch was there and lots of less active members and it was so fun. Pretty much everyone coming together to eat some food and talk with each other. Got to meet some more people in the branch and talk with a lot of our less active members and they are so fun so we had a good time. Then we left to go finish the night off street contacting and there was literally not a soul on the streets. But the 2 people we saw we stopped them and one we actually got to talk to so it was great! Had a way good conversation with them and they took a Book of Mormon and they said they would call us. So we will see how that goes. Usually if they tell us they will call us that really means they won't, but hey sometimes things go well and they actually call you.
Sunday we had church and that was good. The members here are way awesome and we have a great time talking with them. After church we were invited over for a dinner appointment and so we gladly went and they made some wayyyyy good chicken and potatoes and then there was a salad as well and that was pretty good. They also made a cake and it was made to look like the American flag for us so we had something for the 4th of July ....and that was a way good cake!!! It was blueberry, strawberry, and diam chocolate. Wow that was way good. But we also had a good chance to chat with the boys and that was fun. That night when we went out tracting and we talked to a lot of people. And we had 2 solid like 25 min conversations in Finnish so we were really proud of ourselves and it was way fun.
Monday we went out tracting in the morning and we didn't get to talk to to many people. Many of the people we did talk to though was about how cold the summer in Finland is this year. Which it is a cooler summer but as least it's not snowing Haha.  Then we came back and had some lunch. The middle of our day was spent cleaning out the sisters apartment of all the missionary materials they left and getting other things we needed... like we had to grab the snow tires. That was a pain. But then next week we have to go back and clean out the whole place so that will be fun. Then we came back for dinner and we made dinner for the first time for ourselves this week Haha. We made ourselves some chicken sandwiches and they turned out pretty good. You cam see the picture. Then we went out tracting and street contacting and we met some way cool people. And it was just a way fun day.
It's been a way Good week here in Vaasa...everything is great and we are having a lot of fun!
Hope y'all have a good week!
Elder Love out
