Well...this week we had a random heat wave!! (87F and it got pretty muggy (80% humidity) but we made it... and we had some funny experiences and some fun times this week. Hope you enjoy.
Tuesday was P day and I thought I'd tell you a little but about our adventure that we had. We wanted to go hammocking and fishing by a lake that was close by... and it is only like a 20 min bike ride to it. All was well biking there, and a member had told us that they had redone the path around the lake so you could go around it. We thought we would take a quick trip around the lake on the bikes. Well turns out was like a 5 miles bike ride around it... but the catch was... this new path didn't exist!:)) so we were just biking on dirt and we ended up following the path and it got us out not by the lake.... but in a neighborhood not close to the lake at all!!:)) So we figured we went this far...so we just kept going to complete the loop and go back to the lake. So that was probably like a total 13 miles to do this loop. Plus with the distance to bike there and back. Let's just say our legs were tired Haha. But we had a lot of fun biking around and seeing some of the forests that you don't get to see and then fishing was fun but sadly no fish. Next week maybe we will get something. But we hammocked and fished, got eaten by mosquitoes, we found and ate some blueberries and biked a ton. Overall it was a tiring but way fun P day:))
Wednesday we had district council and it was over the Skype again. It was fun to see everyone... but not the same as seeing everyone in person. But we still managed to have a ton of fun with it. We talked about how we can help those we are teaching find their own answers... which is important... cause if we just give them everything, they won't really learn much. We are there to point them in the right direction and show them where to go so they can become personally converted. That night we had the best lesson of the transfer! Also cause all we have been doing is teaching drunk people and people with mental stuff and not really sure what to call it. So teaching has been pretty slow, and people drop us and don't want to meet anymore. But the lady we met with has been met with a few times before... and she is so cool! I finally got to meet her after hearing a lot from Elder Chugg and it was so fun. We started out just chatting and it was just a nice casual conversation. Plus I was proud of myself cause I could understand pretty much everything that was being talked about and we had a good conversation. Somehow the Y2K came up and we talked about that. I definitely feel like my Finnish has gotten a lot better which makes me feel a lot better:)). So now we just keep on learning! But we reviewed and talked about the Book of Mormon and we talked about Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. We talked about how they love us very much and want to help us find the answers that we are looking for. And she was accepting things and making some really good comments. We even talked a little about tithing and mentioned some other commandments and it was just flowing so well. I think there is a lot of potential with her so I am excited to see what happens!
Thursday was just a pretty crazy cause we had a lot to do! So we headed out and we were gonna follow up with someone.... but their building was locked... so we tracted some other buildings. We knocked on this guy's door and he answered and was like "yeah it's okay I already believe in Santa Claus so I don't need you. I already believe in Santa" and the door shuts and I was just like "keep believing man keep believing in Santa" I was so confused:)) It was pretty warm day so that was nice...and some members took us out to pizza at a place called Dallas Pizza. I was thinking "hey maybe they got a cool American here making pizza" I was wrong... but we did sit in a room decorated with Disney stuff so that was pretty cool. And they had a Statue of Liberty outside so that's cool. I'm not sure if they know that the Statue of Liberty is in New York... but hey it's American... so I was happy Haha. We then had to go clean the baptismal font cause a family in the ward was having the baptism for their kid...so we had to clean it and get it all filled up. It was fun to clean that and it went really quick. We had 2 lessons set up, one with one investigator and one less active and the both fell through. So it was back to knocking doors for us and all we got were people closing their doors and then you could hear on the other side them talking "Se oli Mormoni!" And put that in a angry tone Haha. But me and elder Chugg had a good time talking and we were just doing our thing enjoying our time walking talking to people. Despite all the people saying no... it doesn't bother us. They will be ready one day. We went back to church to check and see if they had drained the font after the baptism.... and they were still the there and they gave us ice cream and we helped out for a little bit. We finished the night street contacting and talking to people out there. Overall kinda whack day but it was good!
Friday was a pretty quick day for us and a little crazy. So we went out in the morning to meet with a less active and we had an awesome lesson with him!! We talked about his life and we started talking about doing the little things first. Me and Elder Chugg were going back and forth so good it was awesome!! But at the end of the lesson we committed him to start doing the little things like praying and reading so he can work up to other things and see the changes in his life. We went back and we were gonna do some weekly planning, well that got interrupted real quick. We texted an investigator if they could meet next week'... and they were like... I can't meet next week but I can meet now. So we drove on over to meet with them and we taught them about the word of wisdom and got them started on the 12 step program... the one that the church does and I think they will be able to do it. So that will be fun to see what happens. But we continued weekly planning and that took a long time. We made some dinner and were out for the night. We walked down by the beach cause they were having a concert there for the next three days and it's a big festival as well... so we thought that would be a good place to talk to people. Well we picked the right place cause there was not a soul on any of the other streets. But the bummer was people were to busy eating their ice cream or sitting on benches than to talk to us. We tried out best but it pretty much turned into us saying hi to people and waving and them not saying anything back or looking at us. Me and Elder Chugg had a good time Haha.
Saturday was a good day. In the morning we went out tracting and to follow up with a potential. Well we went to follow up with them and they are like "come back in 15" well we tracted some more and came back in 15 and he let us in. We sat down and chatted for a little bit and then taught him about the restoration... and he was telling us that what we said sounded very logical and made sense. So we kept on going and it was awesome!!Then at the end we committed him to read the book of Mormon and he was like "yeah I'll definitely try it out and read it" it was great! And now since he's busy with school we are gonna work with him to get another lesson set up... but it was great! Then we came back and did studies and we tracted some more. We played soccer with a ward member. We were planning on having more people there but it was just the 3 of us so we were just chatting and having a contest to see if we could kick the ball and hit the cross bar. And then... after we hit that... we started aiming for the side poles. We had a really good time and this guy is so cool. But he was slamming on the fins and it was hilarious. He's like " why are fins so dumb? It's like hey want to come play soccer? Sorry but it's raining we can go out and play or its snowing, but when it's sunny and a nice warm day like today... ah sorry it's to hot to play. People in America play when its warm outside!" And he was going on it was quite funny Haha. Then we tracted the night out after dinner... but here's a funny story Haha. We were out street contacting, this festival is still going and now.... we got even more drunks out on the street. But this guy was on a bike and we talked to him like last week or something and we got a picture with him. Well... we see him again and we say hi and he stops on his bike and comes over. And he's like "it's good to see you boys again, I just got back from the Saloon on an island" and we're like...that's great and he was telling us what kind of drink he had there and how he wasn't feeling too well cause he drank to much last night. But we are like hey we gotta go and he starts talking about his bike and then he's like "I gotta show you something" so he takes off all the stuff that he has on the back of his bike, and then swings the bike over his head and starts like doing a shoulder press with it. And he's like "this is a workout I do when it's not so hot out side.. you gotta take a picture of this" and man he's just going and of course we get a good picture. I was just cracking up and then we finally finished the conversation and went home. I enjoyed that 15 min conversation with him Haha. And that ended out Saturday night:)).
Sunday we had a pretty normal day. It was waaay hot in church... holy cow I was sweating Haha. I don't know how these Europeans do it with no AC. But then someone had the genius idea of opening the windows and the doors and we got a good draft going and then we were good haha. We also got to teach the young men's class and that was way fun. There are just two boys in the class but it was way fun. We went back and had some lunch and did studies after church and then we went out to do some tracting. And we met a few people that just pretended they couldn't speak Finnish but that's okay cause it happens a lot Haha. Then we had these kids following us with their toy guns. We had a good typical Finnish dinner and it was meat and potatoes:)...and milkshakes for dessert made with freshly picked strawberries. And then we went out tracting for the rest of the night and talked to some nice people... but none of them were interested:)) We called some formers and this cool guy I was talking to kept calling me buddy. We actually talked for a while all for him to tell us to call him back later.... but he was a cool guy so it was fun talking to him
Monday was a quick day. Not much happened, we had a lesson fall through. So we went out and hit the doors and met some cool people. We found a few people today who would be interested in talking to us so that was great! We had this cat that was in one of the buildings we were tracting and he kept hissing at us and following us... and me and elder Chugg got nervous about this cat so we ran away from it cause it kept following us.haha. We had a DA with some members and that was fun, we had some way good chicken and we had a good conversation about remembering Christ everyday. That night we followed up with one of our old Russian friends and we brought him a book of Mormon in Russian and this guy is hilarious. He is so funny and so we had a good chat with him and he was telling us about his family. He was also telling us about how he used to be big and strong and that's why his pecks sag down now Haha. He's a way funny guy. Maybe one day I'll actually see this guy with a shirt on Haha.
That's about it for this week! It was way fun and I'm excited to see what the next week brings. Hope y'all are doing well.
Elder Love out
