#71 "Are you Canadians? N"ey"

Happy new year!! Well depending on when you read this it could not be the new year so..in that case a Happy year ending to you! Honestly I think my subject to this email is hilarious and I was cracking myself up. I don't think my comp found it as funny as I did.. just admit it... it's funny. Hope you enjoy the read. I think we had some good times that you would enjoy reading so why not take a look?
So I'm just gonna like combine Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the 26th  cause really not all that much happened cause we can't do really any work. But Christmas eve night we went to an awesome families home here in Jakobstad and had some way good food. We had the traditional Finnish Christmas food which I would like to explain but honestly I am not even sure how to explain it. Like we have these sweet mashed potatoes but they are not made of sweet potatoes. And then there is like this carrot thing that is good but I'm not really sure what it is.  Probably like the best way to explain it is a carrot casserole. But it's good. And then we had some salad that had like beets and rhubarb and other things in a salad. It was really good. And turkey and some Glögi. It may sound weird to you but it is pretty good. Then we spent the rest of night chatting and we played card games and we played uno. I know uno is a card game but just giving you some Pacifics. Yes I said Pacifics cause it's funny and confuses you read. Gotta have some fun. But yeah anyway that was a way fun dinner appointment. Let's just say Christmas morning we enjoyed opening some gifts by our avocado tree and had a pretty lazy morning. We played some ping pong at the church and then went back to the same families home that we were at the night before cause they invited us over again. We had some more of the same food but this time thrown in were some homemade meatballs which were way good. Then we had a huge discussion about Finnish music and that was hilarious. And we talked about them living in Bolivia and all kinds of stuff. Then we came home and chatted with the fams. That was way fun to chat with them again. Got up the next morning and studied Swedish for a while and had some fruity pebbles for breakfast and powdered donuts. Healthy I know huh? And then we played some ping pong at the church and then went to a members home for a dinner appointment... and had the same food again but this time salmon was in the mix as well. Christmas time we just get the same food. Then we had some ice cream and Glögi and chatted with the family and then came home and studied some more Swedish.
Friday we got transfer calls! Elder Roylance and I will be staying together for another transfer but we were already counting on that so it was no surprise to us. We also had weekly planning that day and so that took up a lot of time getting things ready for next week and also getting things set up for the next transfer. But in between all that we went to visit a member in the ward and showed him the Christ Child video and talked with him about it and he offered us some snacks so we ate those with him also. We finished the day off with Swedish study but that was about it. I also forgot but at the start of our day we had been asked to come help clean the church with some members so we mopped, dusted, and did all kinds of stuff... but the church is nice and clean now Haha.
Saturday we got up and did studies in the morning. One of our more normal days this week. We got out and had a good tracting block but not many people home and the ones that were just didn't want to listen:)). We had a friend who did. He lives in an old folks home and is a funny guy. He reads the book of Mormon on his tv so he can see it. But we had a good chat with him and heard some more of his stories. But we had a good lesson with him and also set up appointments with him every single week in the month of January so that's pretty legit. We went from him straight to a dinner appointment and had some way good lasagna...and it was fun to play with their dogs too(black labs). They are way fun. We went to meet our investigator cause they had asked us to come chat a little before they went out of town again.... and so we went to see her for a little bit and went for a walk. And our members invited us back for dessert so we pretty much picked up our friend and walked back and had dessert with them and then walked back to pick up our bikes. There was a lot of walking that night. And then we biked home to get some Swedish study done and that was about our day.
Sunday was a pretty good day. We had a lot of fun chatting with our members at church. Translating in sacrament was way wack though cause the guy speaking literally half his talk was a story so that was an adventure  trying to translate that. But it went well I think. The people I translated for didn't chastise me after so I'm assuming it went well. But after church we were talking to a lot of our members and so we were at the church for a while talking with members. After church we had some lunch and I ate the rest of the mac and cheese I got for christmas. So that didn't last long but well worth it Haha. Then we went out and did some tracting and not many people wanted to chat with us but hey what do you do. Then we had some dinner and went back out after to do some more tracting. The hard part was that it was pretty warm that day so a lot of the snow turned to slush and I have decided it is the worst to bike in. I may or may not have gotten stuck in the slush and then my options were either fall into the slush or ride my bike into a small ditch on the side of the road. So I went with the ditch and that dint work out too well either but better than falling to the ground. But hey what's life without a few little adventures like that. Gotta keep things interesting ya know. And we went and followed up with some potentials and possibly found a guy that could be interested... but we have to go back and see. We biked home and we studied some Swedish and that was about our day.
Monday was pretty fun. We bussed down to Nykarleby and we did work out there. We went to get some pizza from the same kebab man and ordered pizza while he told us about wars in the middle east. Then we went  to visit a less active and got to talk with her for a while. Then we went to follow up with a potential lady buy she didn't have time to chat for a while so it was a quick visit. We talked to this guy on the street and his opening line to us was "I hear voices in my head" so that led to a weird beginning but he had read the whole book of Mormon and told us how he just wanted to believe in the bible and then left. But we had a good time there and enjoyed tracting. We had a very friendly conversation with some Jehovas Witnesses and they just tried to tell us the true name of God...and how all we need is the bible. So as you know we just love conversations like that. Not really though, they just go into preaching mode and they can't just discuss with you. But they were nice and that's what matters. We bussed back and did some Finnish study and had dinner and then biked out about a half hour to visit a potential family. They let us in and fed us the most dense and sweetest cake balls ever. Lucky they gave us Pepsi as well so I could get it down. You'd need some milk for those suckers cause they were sweet haha. But it was a good chat with them a little awkward but good. After some more tracting elder Roylances back tire immediately went flat cause it somehow popped... so we walked home. But we had a good time walking home so it was pretty enjoyable and we had a good time. So the popped tire didn't have a chance at bringing us down. Except down off the bikes... it did do that Haha. And that was about the end of our day.
Also fun story. Some guy mistook us for Canadians so that's the first time they haven't pegged us for being Americans...so I thought that was pretty funny. But I hope I haven't lost too much of my American vibe cause I'm proud of being an American. But "ey" what do ya do? Hahaha
Its been a pretty exciting and eventful week. Hope y'Aall have a good new years!
Elder Love out
