Well this has literally been the fastest week of my life. Its been super busy and of course gone by way fast, cause we are all preparing to fly to Finland on Monday! So this is the last email that will be sent from the great state of Utah hahah. Anyway I'll let ya know what I've been up to this week:)
Austen with missionaries that are from England (one is playing for Arsenal Soccer team, and is going pro when he goes home) Another one got offered a role in a Harry Potter but turned it down to come on a mission) The other Elders are guys he has become really good friends with that are going to Denmark and Russia
Friday: We had a skype TRC and it was with a real Finnish person... and I did not understand a word that was said!:) Me and Elder Carter couldn't help but just smile cause we are so excited to get to Finland!! The lady that we taught was just laughing at us the whole time, but she told us that she could understand us, so that's a win right? haha. So we had class and then we finally got to the end of the day were we got our exercise time and we went to play some sand volleyball. Ya boy and Elder Melton were kings of the court and we won our mini doubles tournament that we had set up haha. After that we went to study and let me tell ya. So we got a little bit of study in and then you could hear music. Like real people music, not hymns. I could hear "Better Now" by Post Malone. Now where the heck was that coming from. Oh wait it was the BYU game! Then You could hear the screams when the teams scored. I died a little inside. You could hear it so clearly ahaha. But all of us elders are okay and we made it through the night haha. The MTC has started putting up lights in the trees for christmas and they were all on that night, so we went and walked around the MTC to look at the lights. It aint no Salt Lake temple lights, but they did a pretty good job for the MTC ahaha.
Saturday and Sunday: It was General Conference!! This was the first time in my life where I had to wear a shirt and tie and watch it. I couldn't just wear P day clothes and be comfortable ahah. But it was really good and they had a lot of good talks. They really focused on making sure that we put our trust in Christ, having faith in him. They also focused a lot on families and individuals and how the gospel can help us in our lives when we are going through trials. I loved Elder Rasband's talk about fears. Fear is nothing new. Fear limits your perspective. When we focus on our fears we can lose sight on the other things. He said something a long the lines of this.. gospel gets rid of fears. If we build upon his rock we can not fall. Which you might be familiar with the reference of Helaman 5:12. That was also mentioned a ton. He talked about standing in holy places. There is no room for fear in these holy places. Why fear when we have the Lord on our side and we have that comfort when we are standing in holy places. Fear is something we all have, can we get rid of it completely? No, but we can keep that fear at bay when we have faith and trust in the Lord. David A. Bednar talked about trusting in the Lord. Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. WE need to keep Christ in the center of our lives. True faith is focused IN and ON Christ. When we exercise this faith it brings us closer to Him, In Him we can find joy. I do not think that it was a coincidence that they all talked about trusting in the Lord, exercising faith and centering our lives around him. This is what we need to do, have faith, trust in him, and build our lives on him. This is how we find peace and joy in our lives. Its through him.
I also got a really cool experience today. A sister in our district has been sick and she asked me for a blessing. This was the second one I have ever given. Well this time I was still freaking out but I was more calm cause it wasn't my first one haha. But this one was different. The words just seemed to flow better this time. You could say it's because I new what to expect... but I really think that it was the spirit. I know that it was the spirit speaking through me. We are a tool in Gods hands and this is an example of how he does what he needs to.
Monday: Elder Carter today went to the doctor for his last check up on his nose before we leave. Everyone in our district too has been getting sick, but luckily I am as healthy as a horse. So while Elder Carter was out I was with Elder Aitken and Elder Cox. That was fun to hang out with a new companionship and just tag along with what they had planned for the day. That night we had to teach lessons again, and Elder Olsen's comp was sick and not there, my comp was at the doctor... so me and him went and taught a lesson and that was way cool. You get so used to teaching with one person, but when you get to teach with someone new, it's cool cause it's so different. The teaching styles are different and it just meshed together and it was a great lesson! It doesn't matter how you teach, as long as the spirit is there then you are okay. Even if you say stuff in your language that doesn't make sense. But you know that what you are trying to say is true and the spirit will testify that your message is true. How cool is that?!
Tuesday: Not gonna lie today was a really quick day, not much happened. We only had one class and then we had the devotional that night. The funnest part was the Devotional review. We were combined with the Danish missionaries who we get along with great and hang out with all the time. And we had Brother Svendsen who is my favorite. And so Brother Svendsen ended up just telling us a bunch of stories about him meeting apostles, his mission, trips he's taken to Denmark. It is a lot of fun cause Brother Svendsen has a TON of stories and we just got to sit and listen to them.
Wednesday: So today Elder Carter, Elder Aitken, and I all taught a lesson together. We had a great lesson about the Atonement and Repentance. But Sisar Clark kept laughing ahahah. There was a point there she paused our lesson cause she was laughing so hard, then we started laughing, Elder Aitken was in tears from laughing so hard and then Sisar Clark got up and left for like 5 minutes cause she couldn't stop laughing ahaha. She came back and we ended up getting through our lesson even though she kept on laughing. I don't know what was up but it was fun. Now let me tell ya I've been here for 9 weeks and that is about the time that the food here at the MTC decides that it doesn't like you and it just wants to make your digestive system miserable. I was getting the worst stomach pains and it was gurgling and making all these weird sounds ahaha. To sum it up I spent a lot of time in the oval office hahaha. I aint gonna hide this story cause hey this happens ahaha and it might just happen to you haha.
Today we are just emailing and starting our packing cause we have to be all ready to go by Sunday! We have some busy days ahead!
Next time you hear from me I'll be in FINLAND!!!
Love and miss you guys, thanks for all the emails and support!
Elder Love is out.
