#64 Missed the bus, late train, and zone conference

Well this week has been one crazy... I hope I got a lot of the details and hope you enjoy the read.
Wednesday we had district council over the computers again so we headed to the church to do that. That was fun to chat with everyone again and  we had a good district council. Had some really good conversations  with them so that was great. After district council we went back to the apartment to do some of our studies and prepare for a lesson that we had later with a less active. So we studied some Finnish and prepared for that lesson. This was a more interesting lesson I've had on my mission. So the tricky part with teaching this less active is that he believes that he doesn't exist. His mind doesn't exist or his personality doesn't exist. I don't really understand it. But he believes that he doesn't exist. So that was an interesting hit with him but also pretty confusing so we will see where that goes. We came back from that lesson and we had some dinner and then headed straight to the youth night where we helped the girls make some marmalade. I kept thinking of that song by Macklemore "Marmalade" as we were helping out Haha. So I was singing that to myself in my head. And then we played some more ping pong with them and that was pretty fun. And ended the night with usual Swedish study.
Thursday we had a pretty good day. We started out tracting in the morning and we were out for a while and then found some problems with our tracting books. So we actually decided to go back and figure out what's wrong with them and fix it. So we started a little project with the books... but once we are done, it will be a lot more efficient. Turns out there were more problems in our tracting books so it's a good thing we started to fix them all. We then had some lunch and we did our studies that we had to do. We went out tracting a little more and then had some dinner. We went to the church to meet with one of our investigators that we are teaching and sat down and talked with her. We talked about a lot of things with her and covered a lot of the commandments. We are trying to figure out what else we can do to help her. She has been investigating for 3 years. So we are trying to see what else we can do to help her be baptized. We are kinda under the impression that she knows it's all true but just isn't doing anything....she wants to live the worldly life a little but longer. But that was pretty much our entire day and then we studied some Swedish at the end.
Friday was a pretty low key day for us. We had a lesson planned in the morning and the member coming with us came and picked us up. We got to the door and we knocked. No answer. We knocked again and waited a little bit. The lady literally answered the door and didn't say a word and then closed the door. Never to be seen again. So I guess we will just have to reschedule that lesson for another time and maybe we will get to teach her Haha. So we headed back to try to use that time we had to continue fixing our tracting books. We got a lot done but we still have just a little bit more to go... but it will help us out a ton later.  We had lunch and did studies and then went to go visit out Italian friend and we talked with him a little about the Book of Mormon. It seemed the conversation mainly stayed on his books that he was writing and the way he comes up with his books. It was a good visit to see him again. But sadly I don't think he's all to interested in learning. But a way nice guy. Then we went back and began weekly planning and had dinner. And that took up most of the night and then ended it off with studying some Swedish Haha.
Saturday we got up and did our normal thing. We did some studies in the morning. But we had planned to got tracting in a outerlying city so we took a bus around 11:30  and bussed to the area. We grabbed some pizza when we got there for lunch and started trackting.  While we were out we followed up with a potential. Only as a missionary will you get chastised by an old lady who is yelling at her husband... and her husband is telling her to stop trying to prove us wrong...and in turn shovel their driveway and get invited back. Honestly a pretty confusing 30 min. We also shoveled a random home's driveway and porch cause they didn't answer the door. We think they were gone. But we had a good time doing it and got to talk to a few people while tracting. We had planned to catch the bus 15:35 to come back but turned out we we showed up for our bus...and another bus driver came and kindly told us that the schedule was different on Saturdays. The next bus wouldn't be coming until 18:40. So yeah we spent about 6 hours tracting out in this small town. We got some drinks from the store to give us a break and we were lucky to get let in by a less active we went to visit and we talked with him for a little bit and we got to warm up. So we caught the bus back with the Vaasa elders. They were staying the night with us so we hoped on their bus back to Jakobstad.  Then we  went to the church to help set up chairs for district conference and watch some Finns install some windows. I think we could have done it faster Haha. But that went real quick and then we went back to the apartment for the night.
Sunday we had district conference so we we got up and we made pancakes for breakfast for us and the Vaasa elders since they were at our place. We got ready and headed to the church early cause we had interviews with president. It is always good to meet with President. Then we chatted with sister Aura... and we greeted members as they were coming in. We had district conference and that was really good. I got to see a lot of members from Vaasa so that was a lot of fun  getting to chat with them. We went back and made some lunch and then headed on a bus to Kokkola. We saw a moose on the way up. It's the first one that I've seen alive in Finland. The first one I saw was the day before but dead in the back of a trailer. But it was still a moose. Dead or alive it counts:)) We rode up and had some dinner in Kokkola and then split up and went contacting.  Talked to one guy but he swerved us. The streets were pretty empty. We got to the train station to get on our train. It was delayed so we were like eh not too bad. Well it got delayed and delayed and delayed. But we had a lot of fun chilling at the train station just hanging out and doing what missionaries do Haha.  So over an hour later we finally got on our train. So let's just say we got to Oulu a little late Haha.  We were over 2 hours late getting into Oulu. The train would go. And then stop. And then make a lot of progress and then stop again. Maybe our train was bipolar or maybe it got tired. I mean I would too if I was going over 200 km/h. But who knows. It's all about the journey not the destination right?:) Who cares about getting a good nights sleep when you can sit in an train in the middle of Finland haha. But I am proud to say I did get this old couple to laugh while we were just chilling in the train car so...Mini wave in celebration of me. Wahoo!  In Oulu we tried doing the traditional sleeping on the parveke... but we all gave up at 2 am cause we couldn't sleep and it was starting to get cold. So we went back in and I slept on the floor... and boy I was out cold Haha. But I slept pretty good:))
Monday we had zone conference! It was a way good zone conference. They introduced the Light the World. So all the missionaries are pretty pumped about that and getting a head start Haha. We have splits in Oulu with the zone leaders next week and so do the Oulu sisters with the STLs so we are thinking a big contacting idea... but we will see what happens. We talked a lot about that and started trying to think of some ideas of what we could do and what we can do to work with the members at this time as well. If you want to see something cool then go to a testimony meeting with just missionaries!! It is pretty legit!! After zone conference it's always a party getting to chat with all the missionaries. Sister Aura though wanted to chat with me after zone conference. She tells me "Young man tell me your conversion story"  and I'm like "Now?" And she's like "yes now we don't have a lot of time". So I sat down with Sister Aura and chatted with her for a good while. I sadly missed the big zone selfie taken and I think I'm the only one not in it:)). But oh well there are more selfies to be taken. But me and sister Aura had a good chat. Then we went and chatted with all the missionaries until we had to head to our trains:) Our zone is pretty legit and we got a lot of good missionaries in the North Zone... so we have a lot of fun! Lucky for us this one was not delayed and we got on right away very smoothly Haha. But it was way fun hanging with the elders for so long. You don't get to do that very often so it was way fun!!!
Anyway that's about it for this week. Stay tuned for the next episode.
Elder Love out
