Well... I just found out this week that where I'm serving along with other cities I've served in like Vaasa.... is considered to be the Bible Belt of Finland. Which explains so much why I've encountered so many people that just tell us the bible is all we need and want to either A) have a nice friendly discussion or B) want to try to argue with us and try to prove themselves right. But hey you learned something new.
Wednesday was a pretty good day. We had a Skype district council so we just headed over to the church to have district council. We had a good discussion and some pretty funny role plays. It's always a good time with the district whether is over the computer or in person. But it's more fun in person let's be honest here Haha. After district council we went home for the great meal of lunch and had some studies. We were just about to head to a lesson and we called them to make sure that they knew we are coming... but they canceled on us cause they were in the middle of moving and apparently didn't need any help. But lucky for us they are just switching apartments and we rescheduled for Saturday so it wasn't a completely loss Haha. But in the mean time we went to a new street to see what buildings we could get into and tract. So we found some good stuff and tracted around a little until dinner time. After dinner we went to follow up with a referral from a good friend in Vaasa but sadly he wasn't home. But that means we will just head back again:). But we spent the rest of the tracting block going to follow up with some more potentials we had found and tracted the places around as well. We had a good chance to see the northern lights this week so we took a little excursion as well to see if we could see anything. Sadly the lights did not appear, but I did get to see a shooting star so hey it wasn't a total bust. These 0.006 seconds that it was in the sky was way worth it Haha.
Thursday was a good day as well. I feel like I always say that every day is good and like they are. Yeah we have our ups and downs like normal but they day still ends good. So just letting you know:)) We went tracting that morning in an area close to our apartment and met this wayy cool guy and his son. After talking for about 20 minutes he invited us over for next weekend so we will go over next week and see what's up:)). Other than that it was a pretty slow morning. After this lunch came and I never get tired of that great part in the day to eat some ham sammies. Granite I've been eating a ham sandwich for like 15 years now and it's still good. Now its not just ham and bread that's weird, I am normal and add other stuff. You only do a straight ham sandwich if you happen to run out of stuff like the day before you go shopping... which I think has only happened like twice:)). After lunch we had studies and went to teach one of our friends in his old folks home. He was not in the best mood cause he couldn't figure out google maps to show us a house he's thinking about buying. Good thing is tech savvy missionaries were there to help Haha. But he then told us he didn't have a lot of time to meet so it was real quick visit.... which resulted in us taking a tad early dinner. We made some huge nachos and tracting the rest of the night. We also had another chance to see the lights as well from our inside friend from Vaasa so we went to a field close by to hang out for a little to see if we could see them. But we just missed them. And by just missed them I mean we saw literally nothing and looked at the big dipper for a while. But hey at least I know where it is, and I found the little dipper. I also think I found the constellation Scorpio.... but honestly I have no idea cause I know nothing about starology or as some people call it astrology. But that was our Thursday.
Friday is the party day isn't it? Well let me tell ya we partied hard. We did our weekly planning in the morning cause we had a meeting in the afternoon. So we knocked that out in the morning and a little into the afternoon cause it takes forever. But hey we enjoy it. Then we won't bore you with lunch cause I'm sure you know what I ate before I did:00. But we went to visit our friend, his wife is planning on having us give a presentation one day at her school. But we don't know when that will be. But we chatted with him, and he told us about his books that he is writing and ranted a bit about the environment. Then told us we should play some bar billiards with him... which is a way cool game like pool. You only play from one end of the table and you hit it into holes in the table to score points. Honestly if I have money later in life I'm so getting one of these... it's way fun. We left his place and went to visit a friend from South Africa... but he was not home. But that didn't stop us from spreading the good word. We just tracted and stopped the few people on the street. Then we came home for a late dinner and studied some shvenska. What's sad is just at this moment I wasn't even trying to make a joke and was intending to write svenska but phone autocorrected me to shvenska. I think my phone knows me to well:)).
Saturday was a really good day. That morning we went out for a good ole morning tracting block and it was honestly pretty slow. We talked to a lady sitting outside having a morning cup of coffee. I personally think that it would have been more comfortable to have a cup of coffee inside and not outside in the cold. But hey that's just me:)). So not much going that morning. Went home for lunch and studies and we planned a lesson for our friends that we were going to teach that afternoon. Well we headed to our lesson and we were pretty excited to teach them and we get over and they had a friend over. When they have "friends" over usually we have to leave. But they kicked him out right away which was a shock to me. But we were actually able to go in and teach them. They have a baptismal date but not really sure that they are on track for that date right now. We still got a long way to go so hope and pray that goes well, cause I have a feeling this will be pretty tricky for them. But we had a good lesson getting to answer a lot of their questions... and we talked for a long time. We talked a lot about the Book of Mormon and even read the first chapter of Nephi with them and watched the book of Mormon video with them. Funny part was they weren't big of fans of Laman and Lemuel cause they didn't listen Haha. But after the lesson it was dinner time and then we headed back out. We had a great tracting block. An unusual amount of people answered the door and talked with us. We even had a lady schedule a time that we could come back... so we will see what happens there.... but the people were just way nice and in a way good mood. And I won't complain about that cause the night went way well!
Sunday was an eventful day and pretty fun. We went to pick up our friends for church and they didn't answer any of our calls.... or us knocking on their door quite a few times... so that was a little sad. But when we got to church one of our friends rolled in on his scooter into the church which was awesome! We weren't sure if he was gonna be able to make it. So we were very happy to see him. In church a lady spoke Russian for her talk and now it seems our branch is becoming even more diverse. Lately it's been pretty normal to have Finnish, Swedish, Russian, and English all spoken Haha. It makes it way fun but sometimes hard on the brain cause sometimes at least for me it takes a few seconds to switch my thought process to a new language Haha. I also gave a talk on Sunday. I spoke about the new Europe Area plan for 2020 that was just announced...and that went well. After church we went home and grabbed a snack, made a few calls and then biked out to Larsmo which is about 30 min away by bike for a dinner appointment with the branch President. We had some way good slow cooked beef and potatoes and some way good dessert. Talked about members we could help and got a few referrals to go follow up with. On the way back is when an adventure began cause we were biking by the paper factory and I heard something behind me and looked back and Elder Roylance was off his bike doing something. Well turns out his front wheel got stuck and just stopped moving. Lucky for him he didn't fall. Not gonna lie I probably would have laughed and then gone to help:)). When we tried to fix it all the ball bearings on his front tire fell off and the balls were all over the ground. As we were looking for the balls a nice Finn walked by and stopped to tell us that the bike was broken and it would be a wobbly ride and continued on his way. Well we found 19/20 pieces and continued our long journey home. We stopped at the church to meet our investigator who invited us to go for a walk and talk. So we went with her and she told us about a dinner she had just had with members and how they showed her and practiced the motion of how one is baptized. Then went on to tell us how she has times she wants to be baptized and then isn't sure. So she's confusing us hard core but.... we have made a lot of progress with her in the last weeks... I think we may be close to getting her to commit to a day. Then we went back so Elder Roylance could fix his bike. Took him a while but he fixed it... and that concluded our weekend.
Monday we had our usual Monday routine. We ventured down to Nykarleby to do some work down there. We stopped by our normal pizza place and got pizza for lunch. I think I have now tried like 6 of their pizzas. Probably not like the greatest accomplishment but I'm happy to report that all 6 of the ones I've had are great. But we had a pretty good day down there. Some old guy told us to get out of an apartment building cause nobody was home and he was going to lock us out so we couldn't come back in:)). We met a way cool lady from Ukraine. And we talked to a lot of people. There was a lot of people willing to chat for a bit. These 2 guys that we had given a book to called us about 10 min after talking with them and they asked us if we wanted some food. But we told them some other time cause we were on the bus back. Did some language studies... and took some time to learn the good ol Finnish language and the Swedish language. Then we went of to our weekly lesson with our friend to talk with her some more and see if we could help more in any way like we do. Pretty frustrating lesson not gonna lie. But hey those happen. But that was about the end of our day.
But it's been a great week though! This week we get to travel to Vaasa and we have zone conference next week so we got some fun things coming up. Hope y'all have a good week!
