Holy Cow this week has been way busy!We had double splits this week so that was crazy but it was wayy fun. Hope you enjoy.
Wednesday was a pretty busy day. We had our usual Wednesday district council. We had a zone conference review. We talked about the things that we had talked about at zone conference and reviewed what we had learned. It was really good and of course just good to talk to the elders again. But after district council we headed back and got some lunch and had some studies. We were ready to get out for a good afternoon tracting block but Elder Roylances' bike had problems again. His front wheel locked up again and probably broke down for the last time. He spent some time trying to fix it and I just got some extra Swedish study in... and before we knew it...the wheel was not fixed and it was time for dinner. We had to have an early dinner cause we had to head to our youth night which started back up. We were on our way to our youth night and we ran into the Jehovas Witnesses and they stopped us in our building so we could talk. We had a decent chat and they were nice. They still gave us some of their stuff so we could read. But hey what do ya do, we chatted with them and left. We had some new people come to the youth night and so we were playing ping pong and baking. Somehow we are always in charge of ping pong so we just played ping pong with them. After that we had a break for the cupcakes they had made and then ended the night with some volleyball. So that was a pretty fun day.
Thursday we got up early and we got on a bus and headed up to Kokkola to do splits with those elders up there... Elder Olsen (from my MTC group)and Elder Frisch. So we got there and we started personal study and then started our day. Me and elder Olsen went out and did some follow up and went tracting. It was snowing like crazy and I was taking or attempting to take some good pictures of the snow. But I'm not that best photographer. We found a way nice lady who was very willing to take a book of Mormon and willing to let us come back and talk with her some more.. so that was great! Then we biked back for some lunch and a little studies. Then me and Elder Frisch went and contacted and talked to some really nice old people and then we went to go teach a lesson. It was with this Kung Fu Hi Chi man. He does some meditation stuff and that was a little strange. But that lesson went alright, a little strange but it went great. After that we did some more contacting and we talked to this one lady and she was a hoot. She was also drunk but she was a hoot. She was hilarious and showing us her walking sticks and new shoes. Then telling us how courageous people we are riding bikes in the snow. Apparently those who ride bikes are just insane. She also thought I was from Finland so that was pretty cool. I've never been mistaken for a Fin..granite she was drunk... but hey I'm gonna take it:)). And then we headed in for dinner. We had some way good tacos and I have to say what made it was the freshly squeezed lime
🏽 they were way good. And then back to grind. Elder Olsen and I trucked out to go follow up with some potentials and then we hit up the student housing for some finding. We talked to some nice people and someone invited us back to talk so that was pretty good. But Elder Olsen and I were having a good time walking around the streets of Kokkola just chatting and of course talking to people. But the later it got the more the streets died. And we finished the night with some language study and of course had some mud cakes and ice cream.
Friday was a pretty chill day we got up in Kokkola and did some personal study and then got on the bus back to Jakobstad. We had lunch and then began to do some weekly planning and getting some things rearranged on the schedule and moved a splits to Sunday... so that made it pretty busy getting that started right away. But we weekly planned and then went to a members home for a service project. We had to help build and put together some furniture. Now in case you were wondering knowing Swedish does not make you any better at building IKEA furniture. It still takes forever and sometimes the pictures are just not enough to figure it out Haha. But we built some stuff and then ate pancakes and then went to our branch sähly night and that was way fun. It's been a long time since I have played sähly.
Saturday we had a service project scheduled for the morning time but they canceled on us.. so we went to do some bike repairs on Elder Roylances bike and went to follow up with some potentials. Then we had lunch and studies and went to teach our man Thure. We had originally planned to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ but it turned into a Word of Wisdom lesson. When it comes to teaching the word of wisdom I am pretty blunt.... cause that seems to be the only way to get people to realize that they have to stop doing what they are doing or they will die:)). Thure said he would stop a lot of things if God told him to... cause apparently God is the one that let him start:)). So we read in Doctrine and Covenants section 89 and read the whole section with him... telling him that this was God telling him to stop. So he said he'd read it again to get a better understanding... and he would wait to see if God would tell him why he should stop. I told him that we could even give him visuals as to why he should stop. I grabbed his cigarette boxes and showed him the first one. I showed him the first box, with a dead guy on it and told him that this should be a pretty good warning to stop cause this is what will happen. The second box was a picture of a smoker's lungs and healthy lungs. And he says "those aren't my lungs" and I told him no, those were not his but his were probably worse. But he's stopped other things on his own before we started teaching him so we were sure to praise him for the good job he was doing there. Sometimes you just need some tough love. Then after his lesson we went tracting and followed up with some potentials. One of our potentials dropped us. The other potential we have talked to him, his mom, and this time his dad answered so we had to introduce ourselves again and let him know who we were and he let us in...and while we were chatting the guy we came to visit showed up with his girlfriend and we talked for a while and they invited us back. So that was pretty great! And due to our weird schedule we had dinner and Swedish studies to end our day. I also had another attempt at onion rings and this time a lot better. But still working on the fine tuning:))
.
Sunday was a way quick and fun day. We had church in the morning and that went well. But then right after church we went to catch a bus to head down to Vaasa for splits. We rode down and got there just in time for dinner. The branch President Santu and his wife Taru had invited all 4 of us over for dinner. So it was way fun to get to see them again and chat with them. They are some of my absolute favorite members from Vaasa. But Taru made some way good chili and rice and an pretty good side salad. There was also a less active member Sonet there as well so it was so fun. But after dinner Elder Andersen and I went to a lesson with Tero! He's the guy we would go fishing with all the time. He's one of my favorite people and we met with him and his girlfriend. Tero was telling us about how his grill on his kitchen table had cracked his window cause the heat from the grill didn't go so well with his ice cold window. But we had a way good time with them and were cracking up. Tero is also from Jakobstad and speaks Swedish so I spoke Swedish with him and his girlfriend sometimes. But it was so much fun to see him again. He invited me to go fishing with him in April but I couldn't promise him anything Haha. Then for the night we just chilled and told stories that night and it was pretty fun.
Monday we had some studies and then out the door to do some tracting. Elder Perkins and I went out and boy we got wrecked. Just a few people telling us to go away cause somebody had peed in their cheerios that morning. And then some people not interested and of course the ones that are not home. But not much going. We had some lunch and some good studies and then we were off again. Elder Andersen and I this time went tracting together. It's always so fun to get to do work Elder Andersen again. So many inside jokes from when we served together it's a lot of fun. We almost got a let in lesson but he told us we could come back so that's cool. Other than that there were not many people home. The tracking didn't get the most out of it but that is okay. We then had dinner and did a splits review. After doing that... we were on our way to the bus station....but we decided we would spend the night with the elders and help out some more and get something more going in the area. It's been a little slow. So we then went out tracting and went to a part of the city that also spoke Swedish. We talked to a ton of people which was way surprising. I was with elder Andersen and so I was pretty much doing all the contacts cause everyone spoke Swedish. But we talked to a lot of people. It was sad cause we talked to an older lady who's husband had just died. But we gave her a pamphlet about the plan of salvation and chatted with her for a little bit. I was quite proud with how much Swedish I was able to speak. I guess when you are put in those situations where you're the only one that speaks the language you'll do a lot better.. cause you know more than you think you know and the spirit is there helping you out. Keeping you calm and from freaking out and also helping you remember what you have studied. But it was way good! Also funny part. One lady was telling us how she knew about Joseph Smith. She was telling us "we have a guy like you guys Martin Luther.. ." I was a lil confused cause Martin Luther is nothing like Jospeh Smith haha.
Well folks that's all I wrote. It's been a way fun and busy week. Hope y'all have a good week.
