It's been a busy week... but not all that much happened this week:) So here it is for ya!
Tuesday was p day and we did our normal things like shop and stuff. We did go frisbee golfing, and let's just say we kinda suck at frisbee gol:)). It's way fun but we had no idea where we were going so we just picked a spot and then just played from there Haha. That night we took the train with our district up to Oulu for Zone conference the next day. There were 12 of us elders and we hung out at the Oulu apartment and had mud cake and ice cream and just chatted. That night Elder Ames, Roylance, Andersen and I we all decided to sleep on the parveke.. so we brought out the sleeping mats and were chilling. Sleeping on the parveke is like getting to still sleep outside but in the comfort of your home. So it was fun.
Wednesday we got a group of us up at 6am to go for a morning run before zone conference.. and that was fun. Just being able to run with them and chat... it was fun.
Then we went to zone conference. Zone conference is a ton of fun and I got to see some missionaries that I haven't seen in a long time. Like my boy Elder Isom... where it has been 10 months since we last saw each other. But zone conference was great. We talked about conversion. It was a focus last zone conference and we continued to talk about it here as well. It was way good! Talking about yielding, surrendering and giving ourselves to God. Also about how developing the characteristics of Christ is a life long process. We had some Salmon soup (lohikeitto) for lunch and it was way good. After zone conference we took some pictures and then caught our train to Kokkola cause we were spending the night there. We had some McDonald's and then for dessert had mud cake and ice cream. Some of the best stuff in the world! Then played some card games till it was time to go to bed.
Thursday morning we got up and we got ready and headed to the train station back to Vaasa. Sitting on a train for 3 hours gives you a lot of time... so I read some way good BYU devotionals by Jeffrey R. Holland and Spencer W. Kimball. We got back to Vaasa and then we started doing some tracting again and just went to hit doors and hunt down some less actives so we could meet them. A member took us for pizza so we got pizza with her and talked with her for a little bit and it was really fun. The rest of the night we just did some street contacting and tracting.
Friday was a day of not much happening. We had weekly planning that day and weekly planning just takes forever. It's a good time that we get to plan for the week and plan for the people that we are teaching.. but man it takes so long. And the weeks go by so fast... I feel like weekly planning is like every other day. But that afternoon a member came to pick us up cause he was coming on a lesson with us and offered to drive. So we drove 45 min out into the country side to teach a lady we have been meeting with a few times now. We taught her about the restoration and it went really well. She always reads the Book of Mormon and she takes in all the stuff that we teach her really well. So hopefully she will continue to progress. But with the long drive we also had a good time to talk to our member and get to know him better. I had a real good time talking with him on the car ride there and back. Then that night we went to follow up with a potential. And it was a miracle! We pulled up and parked a little down the street in a parking spot... and as soon as me and Elder Andersen got out of the car, guess who's car pulled up right next to ours... yep it was the person we were wanting to see. She was happy to see us and we talked for a real long time and it was good to chat. She has been way busy and still is... so getting to meet with her is a little tricky but this was a great step in the right direction and she appreciated that we came to visit. So that was way cool.
Saturday was kind of a crazy day. We started out by going to a former investigators house at 7:30 in the morning cause he asked if we could go fishing with him. So we tagged along and went fishing with him a little bit in the morning. He has met with us before but right now we are trying to help him stop drinking and keep that relationship up with him and the missionaries. Glad to say he hasn't drank in a while and he's doing good. So maybe now that that's gotten better and we have a really good relationship with him we can pick him up again. But then we went to visit a less active who had called to ask if we could come over. He's been having a hard time lately so he enjoys talking with us and we are trying to help him out. He thought we wouldn't be able to meet with him cause we have our missionary work to do... but we were happy to tell him that us meeting with him was helping our missionary work. Then we met with him and came back for some lunch and studies. Tried to find some less active members. Some have just completely disappeared so we found some old records that we could check and see if we can find them. We had our usual sports and not many people showed up which was a bummer but still good. Then we made some dinner and went to meet some referrals that a ward member gave to us. They were way excited to see us, and we were excited to see them. We sit down and talk for a little and then one of them is like, "Are you ready to play some cards?" And were a little confused so we say sure well play some cards and we start playing. It was way fun and hilarious cause the one guy would just start laughing everytime he was trying to be tricky. But somehow out of the games we played we still lost to these two guys. So they ask why we are in Finland and we start talking about our missionary work.... and how they know a member and then one of them says "to be honest we don't know him... all we know is he is Chinese and he can help us here" yeah turns out they don't know the member that referred them to us and are not interested in learning about the gospel, but we are going to teach them English and they are way excited about that. Saturday was just kind of a weird whacky fun day:))
Sunday was a good day. We got up and we went and biked over to a less active house cause we told him that we would bike with him to church. Okay now this guy is at least 75 and he had told us he wanted to ride at a peaceful pace. So he guessed it would take about 40 min to bike to church. Well the church is only a 15 min bike ride away so that would mean we would be biking really slow. So we get there and we are ready to go. He's outside all dressed up and ready to bike. Well he just hops on his bike and starts going. And I mean he is cruising. He tells me he's biked this way 10 thousand times and he knows exactly where to go. I found this out only after catching up to him. He said it would take 40 min...but let's just say we were at church wayyyy early this Sunday:)). We got there in 10 min:)) He was going so fast me and Elder Andersen were shocked Haha. But we had a good time and he was happy to be there. We sat in on the young men's class and were helping with the lesson in there which was fun. We came back and did some studies. Then we went off to start knocking some houses. We came up empty handed but we did talk to some nice people Haha. And I did have my first experience of someone throwing something at me, but they had lousy aim and hit their grill instead... it was pretty funny. Then that night we went to follow up with a former that we are good friends with. He was happy to see us...and we got a meeting with him to go back on Wednesday so that was great!!!
Monday was a blur and went by really fast. We just spent the day tracting and then that night we went to visit a less active member.
Hope you all have a good week!
