I would explain my title of my email to you....but that's just a big spoiler and nobody likes spoilers so I'll let you get into it. Hope you enjoy the photos this week as well.
Wednesday was a really busy day for us. We went to our friend Kenneth's place and did some service for him. We helped him hang up some curtains and move some cables and we fiddled with his speakers cause he blew them out. He thinks that we can fix it for him... so we tried Haha. But he was happy with our work. We chatted with him a little and then headed home for some lunch and studies. Then due to some changes in our plan, we had district council in the afternoon. Totally threw me off cause usually it's in the morning. But we had a good chat about how we can help our members in our ward. It was really good. We had our district council and then headed home and had some dinner and then we had to go straight to our youth night. They were gonna go sledding at this hill by the church. Well I had a lot of fun sliding down this "hill" cause I haven't gone sledding in a really long time. But man if only we could show these Finns how much fun it is to sled down a Real hill Haha. They would be mind blown. But we went sledding for a little. Then we went back to the church and we had some warm glögi and some popcorn and bagels. We chatted with the leaders and all the 12 year old girls... but they don't really talk to us:)). Sometimes it's pretty hard to get them to talk cause they just look at you or they are so loud haha. But that was our day Wednesday.
Thursday was a waayyy eventful day! So in the morning we had a lesson fall through with our friends Tom and Niina. They have just disappeared and we have no idea what happened. But then our member Veli Lehtinen called us and asked us to come help and move some stuff to his new house. That took up the morning and we went back and had some lunch and prepared for the lessons we had later that day. Then we went off to our lessons. We met with Thure and we went to teach him the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We had a way good lesson. We are planning to have lots of review cause it's a lot for him to take in... cause he pretty much has to change everything that he's believed his whole life... but he's doing great! He accepted to be baptized and so we have planned for him to be baptized late March. But he told us he might go to Portugal for some time for vacation so it will probably get moved... but he said if he can't afford to go.. then he will be right on track:). He is awesome. He trucks through the snow across town to come to church each Sunday. But we had a great lesson with him and he loved the explanation as to what baptism means. So we were happy with how that lesson went. Then we had to rush home and get dinner and then go teach our friend Margareta. We met our member Veli Back. We taught Margareta about the plan of salvation. She has had so many questions and this was our first time teaching the plan of salvation in Swedish... so we were a little nervous. But it went great! She had read the reading assignment that we gave her... twice! And the pamphlet! And she told us that she had also started reading a little bit from the beginning. So that was awesome. But we talked about the plan of salvation and I think it went really well. Answered her questions. So we had 2 great lessons! But not gonna lie... this part that I'm gonna tell was the best part of the day. That morning we had gotten a text from our friend John in Vaasa. He told us that we could see the northern lights that night. Well we have heard this a few times and seen nothing. But we went cause he had said " today Aurora will break out..... tonight we can go outside and watch it. after 21:00" So of course we go out and check cause John takes people to see the lights...so we trust him. So we out by the beach looking and I noticed 3 small lights that looked a bit like clouds appeared and started to get bigger and I started to freak out to Elder Roylance cause it was the northern lights!! And then they appeared and we took some pictures and selfies. They disappeared and we chatted with this really cool guy who was a photographer. He told us to go to this other spot and we would see them better. So we went there and we saw them bigger and better cause they had moved. And we met another photographer and chatted with him and then Boom they got way big! Sadly we had lots of clouds but hey I'm not complaining cause for the most part you could see them pretty good. Got some pictures and they are a little blurry cause they are tricky to take photos of.... unless you have a way good camera. We got some pictures from John who took photos of it and they are awesome and we got some photos from Rovaniemi as well and a video from some of John's friends in Rovaniemi as well so you can see that as well. We all saw the same stuff but the ones in Rovaniemi were a bit better cause it's up north a lot more but....WE SAW THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!!! So I can check that off my bucket list as well but that was the best part Haha. I've waited so long to see them. So WAHOO!!
Friday was a pretty chill day. We went out for a good tracting block in the morning and tried talking to people. We had one guy tell us we could come back so that is pretty promising. He was way nice. We also did some follow up and nobody was home and that took up our morning time. Then we went and had some lunch and then sat down to bust out some weekly planning. That usually takes a really long time but we survived. We changed our schedule from the normal routine and had dinner right after and then studied Swedish so that we could get to our branch sähly night. We had one of our friends come... Davood. We are hoping to start teaching him soon. But he came and we had a good time playing sähly and we talked with him for a really long time after which was way good to get to know him better and some really good Finnish practice.
Saturday was a pretty fun day. Saturday morning we had a meeting with a guy that we have met fall through... which was a bummer.... but we went to follow up with a referral from a member. He is a former investigator and has been around missionaries for like the past 23 years... but we had a way good chat with him. We are thinking that we will be able to start teaching him soon. We practically taught him the first lesson and a mix of the plan of salvation but it was a way good chat with him. We had some studies and lunch and then headed down to Nykarleby to do some tracting and follow up. We got some pizza and went to follow up. People weren't in the greatest mood to talk to us but hey what do ya do. There also seemed to be like nobody in the town so that might have had something to do with it.. But it went well and was enjoyable. We came back and had some dinner and then studied some Swedish. That was our day but a way good one.
Sunday we got our friends Thure and Jenni in church again so that was great to see. We also had a great talk with our branch President. We pretty much sat down and said "hey we need help from the ward cause tracting isn't working" and we had a way good conversation and the beginning to get some good work with the ward...it should hopefully start soon. After church we were gonna meet with a less active but that got canceled so we went out tracting. Also I've decided that the worst thing is to bike in slush and ice. Pretty much what happens is you are in control with your front tire... that is what guides you... and if you keep that in control then you will be okay... because your back tire decides to be a teenage girl with an attitude and just slide back and forth left and right. You just drag it pretty much so it makes it a little hard to bike cause your back tire doesn't want to cooperate Haha. But we went out and we got to talk to 5 people! And 1/5 actually talked to us and he even took a book. A cool guy from Romania. And then we had a late dinner with some Swedish study. So another way good day!
Monday seriously not much happened. We took a bus down to Vaasa. We were in Vaasa the whole day cause it was later in the day this time.... but we still had to take our early bus. So we hung out with the Vaasa elders and then went to get some kebab and had district council. We had a good district council talking about family history and had a hilarious role play. I wish I could describe it but it wouldn't be as funny cause I'd have to explain everything... cause it was in Finnish and after all the explaining it's not that funny any more. But I also stopped by the Halal shop which is where you by all food from Africa and the Middle east... and picked up some amazing Egyptian juice. They had more flavors this time as well so I was way excited about that. We contacted for a bit and a homie from Ethiopia told me it wasn't a sin to be a Trump supporter and that he loved America:)). We took the bus home and it was pretty late when we got back so we sent out our weekly spiritual thought to the ward and then studied some Swedish.
Hope y'all have had a good week like I have! This was one for the books!
Elder Love out
