#60 I've been in Finland for a year!!!

Well... the leaves are falling...crisp cool air...the occasional windshield freezing again right after you clean it off... winter is on its way. Literally no joke.... yesterday  we cleaned off the windshield... and as soon as we sat down in the car... me and Elder Andersen watched in amazement the windshield freeze back over in seconds!! But don't worry... we got some good products to put on the windshield to help reduce that Haha.
Wednesday was a pretty good day. We had district council and we all go to see each other which was good. It's always more fun when we have the whole district together. We reviewed zone conference and we also reviewed general conference as well. That went really well and we got to spend some time with the Pietarsaari elders. After that we had studies, some tracting, and then a DA with a former investigator from Egypt. He made us some way good Indian food and taught us all about Egypt and the pyramids and all kinds of stuff. Learned a lot about Egypt:) We also just sat on the floor and ate dinner while getting to have some juice straight outta Egypt... and it was pretty good. So I was pretty impressed and happy with the food we got:) Then for the rest of the night we street contacted... but you can tell winter is coming... cause you see less and less people every day Haha. But that's really all that happened Wednesday.
Thursday was a pretty fun day. We got up and went right over to one of our friend's homes to go fishing with him that morning. Probably the last time of the year... it was cold and we were having a good time. All of a sudden our friend turned to me and said "hey this isn't good fishing conditions, I'm gonna head home and I'll be back in a half hour, wait here and keep fishing" so he just ups and left me and elder Andersens there.:)) So were fishing doing our thing chatting and having a good time. We weren't getting jack squat and then we sas a fish literally jump right by our hooks. And not even a nibble... which lead me and elder Andersen to start talking to the fish "here fishy fishy fishy" I am proud to report that it worked... not:)). We didn't get anything...but our friend came back and just came back to pick us up:)).  So we went home and went and got ready real quick and headed out tracting. We picked a street to go down and we walked all the way to end to start there and work our way forward. The first house we knocked on was completely dark. The front door was open but we opened it and went inside cause it was like a really mini apartment building. But I went in first and it's like you just walked into a scary movie. Non of the light switches worked, there was  this weird wallpaper and broken glass on some of the doors and just completely silent... like you're just waiting for something to come down the stairs or out of these doors or just pop up behind you. It was a weird house and we got out and kept going. We ourselves probably looked a little weird walking around in all black with our umbrellas in the dark knocking on people's homes Haha. But we did talk to this one guy who was way nice and he accepted a Book of Mormon! So that was cool and so that made us feel less like creepers.:: It was just a weird stree but at the end was some apartment buildings and we tracted those for the night out but didn't get too far. We went back and made some more calls cause nobody was out on the streets in the rain.
Friday was a busy day for us. So we started out the morning tracting and the street we had decided to go to was a pretty big street from what it looked like... a big street on the map. Well we parked and started walking to it. When we gott to it... we were like in the middle and this road just so happened to be as long as the airport runway in fast and furious 6. For those of you have seen the movie you'll get my reference Haha. But we started tracting and we got a good ways. Talked to a JW, some ladies who walked out of a basement bakery and some old people. You know just the usual. Well we cut it a little shorter cause we had lessons to plan for and weekly planning to do. So we headed back just a tad early for lunch and start planning these lessons. Well let's just say these lessons didn't go how we planned at all. The first one didn't even happen. He canceled. So there was one lesson that went they way we didn't plan. The second... we planned a break up lesson with our investigator cause she just isn't really progressing and we have tried a ton and she doesn't want to talk about things we will agree on... that's a little difficult. So...we drove out to this lady's house and we had a good time driving out there. We showed up to her door and we went for walk and we started talking. We were asking questions to try to figure some things out. Well she all of a sudden had an interest in talking about things we agreed on and was very interested in learning more about the plan of salvation so that was awesome! She was in a way good mood and was very happy to see us that day. Before we could even ask.. she asked us when we could come back. So no break up and the relationship is going strong Haha. So that is awesome!! We also went back after the lesson cause it was late and we finally got some dinner and then we made some calls. I ended up chatting with this way nice lady on the phone. She told me she was not interested about 30 seconds into the call.. but the call didn't end till 12 minutes later. We had a great chat... talked about her house, Finland, the city of Vaasa. She apparently thought I was child of a foreigner... RIP to me and my Finnish haha. But we had a good laugh about it Haha. She was way nice though and told me I was doing good so that healed the wound she had put on me. It was an overall good night of calls and I really enjoyed it.
Saturday we got up and out ready to talk to all the Finnish people. Actually met some cool people and one of them was friends with a member and said he was given a Book of Mormon earlier. So that made us happy to hear the members were trying to help. But we ran out of Finnish Books and Book of Mormon 21 day challenges. We decided those were pretty important and thought to go back to the car and grab some more. The car was a little far away and we thought we had found a short cut. Well it turned into a long cut. If that's a thing. And it was a pretty walk but we should have just walked the other long way. One thing I miss about america is just being able to park right on the side of the road. Roads here are not always big enough to do that and one slight mistake you'll get a ticket. Like the parking clock to keep track how long you've been there. Got beaned with that my first transfer in country. But now I'm going a year of no tickets so yay me:)) We went back for lunch and studies. Our good polish homie canceled on us.. so sadly no lesson. But we had good studies. We had another call session which took a while cause I momentarily misplaced the paper and couldn't remember where it was... so we looked for it. Moms voice in my head as I'm looking for the paper "dont make me come and find it: well I'm proud to say I found it Haha. We then went to play Sähly with the ward and that was way fun. They called our Chinese member the great wall of China when he was goalkeeper. I don't know about you but I thought that was funny. But he lived up to his name..he did a good job and even saved a goal by catching it in his legs and one in between his ankles. So the wall stood strong. Also come to find out a member saw the northern lights in Vaasa at 10pm some night last week and never texted us Haha. Sadly we were not in Vaasa last week and I can't remember what day it was...but he promised if he saw them again he would text us. So fingers crossed they come again and we have a clear night and no more rain Haha. Well we pulled 3 for 3 on days with late dinner. We had another late dinner but hey you do what you got to do. Plus it like rarely happens but we just happened to have it 3 days in a row:)).
Sunday was a bomb day!! So we get up and got ready for church.  I called our one friend who said he was coming... to check and see if he still was. We had a ride set up with members and so all he had to do was wake up. He told us he was gonna get ready and come. This guys is the one guy we taught on Monday and had a big conversation about God. Well this guy is a champ, he came into church with our members and they were chatting and having a good time. We gave him a tour of the building before church started. Now fun fact....this guy got home from work at 4 in the morning and was still there for church how awesome is that!! Also we made a break through, this was the first investigator I've had in church my entire time in Vaasa. I've been here 4 months so the drought is over and we got rain and let me tell ya it poured. He was singing in church. I had Elder Andersen sit by him and I went to sit by a former investigator who just randomly showed up so I could translate for him. Well man translating is frickin hard... but we are getting better Haha. So sacrament meeting ended and I asked him " I'm just curious but what made you come to church today?" Cause he had told us about a month and half back that he didn't want to meet anymore cause his family was disappointed... and went on to tell me how he had had a stressful week and wanted to come to get some peace. Then he went on to tell me that he's gonna try to come when he can. So he has felt that it's different  at church and I just love this guy so much.. so I was happy to see him and we are still good friends:). Then 2nd hour was about to start and the branch President came and asked us for some help. So I told him I could help him and I would meet them in priesthood. Well...I forgot that the bishop and branch President are now in charge of young men's so I got to spend the second hour with the young men. That was way fun. But I really missed out in Sunday school cause our investigator apparently was making all kinds of comments and answering questions and just talking to everyone. After church he was going around getting to know people. Just an awesome guy. The members were way excited to see we had someone in church so they were more than willing to help with anything. Then after church we went to ward council and we made some progress with the ward... and this member who was in there just rained praises on us missionaries for helping her family...and how she's praying that us elders won't leave. But wow those like 5 hours we were at church was awesome! And we told people transfers were coming and so we also landed 3 dinner appointments for the week. That's a plus as well.  Then we went back for studies and since we were at church so late... by the time studies were done...it was dinner time. We ate sweet pork burritos haha. The traditional Sunday meal:)) Then we went out and tracted the night out, walked by this creepy looking old church and then walked by the creepy house that we were in earlier. That place where we thought nobody lived all of a sudden had one light on inside. Yeah looked weird but we happily walked right by Haha. I also felt kind a bad for the people we street contacted at night cause now like by 7:30 -8 o'clock its pitch black and then just 2 guys approach you in the dark. I try my best not to come across scary and give them the friendliest hello I can give... but sometimes they still get a little spooked:)). But over all it was a really good day.
Monday was a good day. We went out tracting in the morning and we did some follow up work as well in the morning and it went well. We went and we did studies and had some lunch and it went by real quick... and then we had to head to a lesson. This one we hit him with a double whammy and taught the law of chastity and the word of wisdom. Took it really well and was actually a really easy lesson to teach. Also he asked a lot of questions about America so we talked about America as well for quite a while. I still think that he is convinced that we work for the US government but we have tried to clear that up. I still don't think he gets it:))) Then we went from that lesson to another lesson right away and he had brought his friend cause his friend liked to talk about things with religion. Well we ended up having like a 2 hour discussion about the plan of salvation and all kinds of stuff. It went really well and it will be exciting to go back and to keep teaching them... cause they have some way good questions and they just kinda get it. Sometimes you have to explain things to them a lot but they get it and it makes sense so they are just really easy to teach. But it was a way good lesson and I think we made a lot of progress and we will have another good lesson next time. We did get home a little later but that is okay. Sadly it was a way clear night and no northern lights yet... but well keep hoping Haha.
Also we get transfer calls on Friday which means p day next week will be on Monday for me Haha and who knows what will happen. But anyways have a good week y'all.
Elder Love out
