Well this has been a really crazy week for us... Hope you enjoy the read as much as we enjoyed our week:). It was pretty legit.
Wednesday we started our day with district council. So we biked over to the church and it was online again. We have been a little unlucky with the district councils all being online cause of how the zone conferences and our mission tour that is coming up. But we had a good district council and a good chance to talk with the elders in the district again. But that went really well and then we headed back to the apartment for some lunch and for studies. After studies we went out to go to do some tracting. We went to a new street that we had not been to before. Sadly not a lot of people home, we seemed to have just gotten there before everyone came home from work. But we had a few people answer but not much happened. We then went back and made some dinner and then headed off to the youth night at the church. This week it was some more singing Christmas songs and we made some paper ornaments. We made some paper stars out of old books and then we finished off the night with a game of volleyball. We then went home to study Swedish. We were texting a member about the northern lights cause there was a good chance we could see them, but they sadly changed directions and we were outside the line of visibility. But next time we will see them... hopefully haha.
Thursday we got up and got ready and then hopped on a train up to Oulu for exchanges with the zone leaders. Got some studies done on the train ride up. We got to Oulu and our busy day began. We went back to the apartment to plan some lessons. While we were there a former missionary was visiting in Finland and stopped by the apartment. It was good to see him again. I hadn't seen him since my first transfer so that was really fun to talk for a bit. We then left after preparing lessons and I went with Elder Koch to a lesson. We taught about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and chatted with him. It was interesting cause he is a former member so that was an interesting lesson. But it went really well! Then we went from the lesson to pick up the other elders and went to the church to start the prep for the activity we had planned that night. We did a hot chocolate stand in the center in Oulu so we had to make 15 liters of chocolate milk Haha. I don't think I've ever seen so much milk being used at once. But that took a while to do that and meanwhile doing that we were making dinner and making trips to the center to drop stuff off to the sisters and give them stuff to set up... so we were some busy bees. We had the contacting activity of handing out hot chocolate. Me and elder Koch were struggling to get our poster set up cause it kept falling down..we were just cracking up. We then decided we were gonna take a few cups of hot chocolate with us and go contact people and give it to them. First guy we talk to is a guy from France. He accepted our hot chocolate and we started talking. Well this conversation took off and his girlfriend showed up and joined in. And we were happy to say 45 minutes later we parted ways and went back to grab some more hot chocolate and go give it to someone else. We went back and grabbed a few more cups and went back to talk to people. We talked to a few people and they didn't want any. But we stopped on girl and she gladly talked to us and took the hot chocolate. She was from way up north.. Lapland like by the Sami people. The Sami people are a way small group and speak a way weird language conversion of Finnish. But she spoke some to us and I didn't understand a word. It's weird. But we started talking with her and shared part of the restoration and explained the Book of Mormon. Well we were happy that 45 minutes later she left with a Book of Momon and we had a way good conversation. We went back and got some more hot chocolate and took a group picture cause we had 8 missionaries in Oulu cause the sisters had exchanges as well. We got some good pictures. I'm awkwardly standing in the middle cause I thought someone would come stand by me but nobody wanted to block Jesus or the hot chocolate table so I'm just chilling in the middle. Poor choice of positioning on my part haha. But then we had a ton of kids come up for hot chocolate... so turned into those guys from the Polar Express throwing hot chocolate everywhere. I had a thermos in each hand filling up so many cups and talking with people. But it was so much fun, it was probably my favorite contacting activity I've done on my mission. We ended the night by doing some dishes and me and Elder Koch playing some chess.... which he kicked my butt twice Haha. Looks like I need some practice:)).
Friday we got up and did our usual stuff and we did a little bit of studies in the morning. Then Elder Bäckström and I went out to do some tracting and contacting. We talked to some cool fishermen and some way nice old couples. They were willing to take a small break and talk to us. We got to hand out a book of Mormon which was great and other than that Elder Bäckström and I had a good time talking and walking around Oulu. We then went back and finished up studies and had our exchange review and talked about the exchange and how it went. We had some lunch and then went to the train station getting ready for Round 2 of exchanges cause we got off in Kokkola to start exchanges with them. We got off the train in Kokkola and we got started right away. Elder McKenzie and Roylance went off to teach a lesson and Elder Olsen and I went off to do some follow up work and some tracting. So we went biking around Kokkola to follow up with people and sadly nobody was home. We talked to some nice old ladies and had some good conversations about christmas and met a cool soccer player from Boston. So that was fun. We went back to the apartment and ended the night eating burgers for dinner and some mud cakes and that was about it for the day Haha.
Saturday we got up and we did all of our studies in the morning and then had some lunch. After lunch Elder McKenzie and I were gonna bike out to an are but one of the tubes was popped on elder Olsens bike from the night before so we had to walk out there. People were not in a very talkative mood with us but that is okay haha. We went to follow up with a guy. But we didn't get to do much cause we had to walk back to teach a lesson. So we walked back and contacted on the way. This time there was like nobody out on the streets but that's okay. We then went and taught a lesson to a returning member and that was pretty fun. Elder McKenzie is doing pretty good in Finnish so I was proud of him for his help in the lesson... but it went really good! It was a really solid but quick lesson cause we had to go and catch the bus back to Pietarsaari. We were pretty tired after we got back and we still had weekly planning to do. An investigator texted and asked if we could go on a walk. So we kinda dropped what we were doing and headed out to go spend some time and talk with our investigator. That was a lot of fun and easy some good time to chat. But that was about it.
Sunday we got up and had church. After church we were at the church a while talking with members and getting things figured out for our crazy week that we got coming up so that was pretty busy for us. Then we went back and got some lunch. Then we headed out to go see a potential that we had scheduled a visit with. He lived in an old folks home and we showed up and they showed us to his room. Really nice guy. We are trying to figure out how we can teach him best so we will see what happens. But we had a ton of fun talking to him. Well listening to him talk as well cause he talked a lot Haha. He was a really nice guy though. After meeting with him we went back and had some dinner. And then the rest of the night we went to the church setting up stuff and finalizing things for a church tour that we we're gonna give the next day. A religious class from a school was coming so we had to get things cleaned up and set up and that took a bit. But we got it all worked out Haha.
Monday was a way busy day. So we started out our day really early by getting to the church at like 08:45 in the morning to get things prepped for our presentation and church tour for this class that was coming. We had a member with us to help us out as well and we got it all set up. They showed up with a great small class of 9 people. So that took the nerves away a bit cause it was so small. But I was also surprised cause this class was all girls. And they were the quietest group ever and they didn't do anything. Except when I messed up in my Swedish, then there would be a giggle. But in survived with my Swedish and our member was bomb at helping us out being there... so it went really well! He told me that I was doing really well speaking Swedish...so, that made me feel better as well. Then after that we had to head straight to a members home for a lunch appointment. So we were there, and had lunch and he taught us a little bit of Finnish. We then went from there and biked home and planned our lessons for the day and then headed out to go teach those. Our first lesson fell through which was a bummer. So we tried to see if there was anyone we could go visit and follow up with. When we finished that we went and studied some Finnish and then had dinner and then raced to the library for our other lesson. That one went way good and we talked with our investigator about self worth, and our worth in Gods eyes. And that was a way good lesson. And then we finished the night with Swedish study. It was a pretty hectic day but really good.
And that's it for the week. It's looking like we have another crazy week but that's what you got in the mission life Haha. Pretty sick and we got fun stuff coming up in a few weeks as well so we are excited.
