Wednesday was quite the adventure for us...we had a day planned to tract up in Hentaa. There are a lot of people up there and we have had some pretty good success on finding people who might be interested... so we made a day out of it and went up to tract. So you know we're doing our missionary things, knocking on doors, talking to people, throwing snowballs at each other, watching the ducks by this bridge. Now first of all... why the heck these ducks have not gone south for the winter, I have no idea!! cause these lil fellas have got to be cold!.. but they are toughing out the winter:)). Anyway... so we are knocking doors and you have the people that are not interested, the people that slam the door in your face, and the occasional person who might be interested. So we knock on this one guy's door and the 3 of them are blasting their music and are just completely wasted. Now let me remind you...their weekend is early.... cause its 2 in the afternoon on a Wednesday haha. So we let them party on and we keep on tracting. Well, we go and get some subway that was around the corner cause its like 6:30 and it's time for some dinner. So we're just eating our good ole sandwiches and then one of the guys who was from that party room comes stumbling into the subway... and we are like what the heck is gonna happen.....he comes in, grabs like 7 bags of chips, stares at the lady behind the counter and just walks out. So of course after he left,we are all like what the heck just happened haha...and the funnier part was we knew who that guy was:)) I guess you had to be there....we thought it was funny.:))
Thursday we had another good tracting day and visiting some less active members. We had a DA planned for the evening and then we had to go to a members home and give a blessing. So we got through the day, tracting and went to a members home for dinner. It's the same couple that we spent Christmas with. Just this fun old couple who are hilarious! They made this way good stew and we were just chatting and having a good time. We were gonna share a message... and then they go on to tell us that they have a spiritual message for us haha. They told us to go sit on the couch cause we were gonna watch a video! And what do they pull up for us to watch... haha JOHNNY LINGO! So we sat and watched Johnny Lingo with them and then they went on to tell us about all the important lessons you can learn from Johnny Lingo:) It was a fun dinner appointment!!. After that we left and went to a members home who had asked for us to come over and give a blessing. They are this way nice Filipino family. One thing I've learned here with the Filipinos... they all move together. There are three in our ward who are all sisters... and then this family has her sister, brother, and mom all living in the same apartment complex. So we give the blessing and then her sister just comes walking in somehow knowing that we were there and asked us if we could give her a blessing. I was able to give my first blessing in Finland and it was a way cool experience. Luckily they all spoke English... so I said it in English. The important part is no matter what language it is given in, the same blessings are in store. I also thought...how important it is to always be worthy....because you seriously don't know when you are going to be asked to give one. We had this great opportunity to get to know this family... and they made us ramen which was way good and had a lot of flavor. More than just the powder that comes in the packet... I was very impressed with how much flavor there was just in noodles:))
Saturday we had a great lesson with our new investigator! Things have been really slow in Espoo this winter (probably because of the cold and the snow:))..so for us to get a new investigator to teach...it's awesome! Cause now we have a total of 2 haha. But this guy is just awesome! We asked him about his Book of Mormon reading...and we asked him to read the introduction and the testimonies. He went on to tell us that he knows that Joseph Smith really did see God and Jesus and then he asked us about who the Lamanites and Nephites were... and how some were destroyed! So it was way cool, and we taught the Plan of Salvation....and he had so many good questions. The great thing too about this guy is if he has a question he asks.... literally nobody asks a question when they have one and it's a little annoying sometimes when they don't ask their questions. This guy is just awesome! We have become really good friends with him and we gave him a soft baptismal invite and so we are hoping to get him a baptismal date here soon.
Sunday we had church. Since it was fast and testimony meeting...I decided to bear my testimony. Probably the scariest thing I've done in my life:)...but my Finnish came out...and everything went well!! Elder Englund said it was probably some of my best Finnish that I have spoken....so that was great to hear!:) We also visited some members and met up with a guy who's been taught some lessons. This time he brought us Korans and taught us about Islam. He listened to us so we listened to him. Islam is very confusing... let me tell ya:)).
Monday we were just tracting but I'll tell you about this one guy we talked to for like 45 min at his door. We knocked and he opened up and was like " You got a brief moment... go!!" We told him who we were and he wanted to question us and why we believe what we believe. He asked things like " Why does God exist? What makes you so sure that your church is the right one? Why do you try to get so many members in your church? How did you know that you received an answer and how do you know its real and not some crazy thing in our head?" That was just a few things of what he asked. He told us ..."we will just go around starting with you and then each of you will answer" and all we did was bear testimony of what we knew was true and you can't argue with him. I told him " I wish I could tell ya I had a vision or literally saw Gods hand come from the sky, I wish I could but its a lot simpler than that.::" and we had our conversation with this guy answering his questions and he then told us... "I already decided that I will never become religious... I've just been asking all these questions to see if I could get you to turn on what you believe and get you to deny your faith" This guy was a treat but he couldn't get us with our testimonies. It was way funny too... cause with one of the questions he asked Elder Englund, Elder Englund said "..... I don't know if you were listening but I explained already....." Just being good ole nice Elder Englund... it was pretty funny. Sometimes that's all you gotta do, just bear testimony and let it sink in and someone else will come along when they are ready. One thing I learned though....Your testimony gets a lot stronger when you have someone really question you and try to get you to turn back on yourself.
Well that's all folks for this week... These are some of he highlights of what happened. Finland Helsinki mission is the best mission and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now!! Hope y'all have a good week!
Elder Love out
